Isnīt there any way to stop them from getting an account. The last 5 msg in my inbox over the weekend was from spammers. Annoying!

I'm sure there is. Just that we, as an admin group, have not found a solution as of yet....but we're working on it.

Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Angry Here are mine...

I'm reluctant to post on this forum because of all the SPAM I get as the result of joining it. Every private message I've recieved from Zone 5 is SPAM. This has NEVER happened on ARC or HS. If this doesn't stop--and soon--I'll just withdraw completely. This is ridiculous and totally unnecessary.

I've just tried making some adjustments to the group of members awaiting moderation so that (I think) they won't be able to send PMs anymore.

Please let me know if anyone does recieve any new spam PMs though.

Cheers,
Motty.

I have to agree, that this is getting kind of rediculous. I have had 5 spam mails in the last week.

Is there any way we can put in a test question that the person has to answer before the request for membership is sent for review?

Q: Who is the only injection mold manufacturer for the 1/48 B-29?

A: Duh......

Q: What type of plastic is used to make models?

A: Styrene

Etc. etc. etc..

If they cant get the question right, the request doesnt go through to the admin.

Add to the spammer list...

We're looking at a test question as a possible solution. Hopefully the tweaks that Motty made will cut down the PM spam.

Please understand though that we are working on a solution and we appreciate everyone's patience as we want to find the right solution so we don't have to keep coming back to this issue and having to find another fix.

In the meantime, if you do get a spam PM, please post the username here and we'll take care of them. Best option....do not open the PM, just delete it. I know it's annoying as hell, but again, we're working on a fix.

As we speak, I'm readying the new board software to take over the version we're on right now. It has more adaptable spam filters than the current, so this should end the issue when launched.

Until then, I am personally verifying all new user registrations.

If you are concerned about spammers having your email address, please be aware that any emails you get to your home computer are messages generated by the Zone-Five forum to let you know about any PMs you have received here. They are not direct from the spammers so your email addresses have not been compromised.

Obviously any unwanted messages are annoying but we hope that tweaks and adjustments we are trying may help reduce (or stop) the problem.

In that vein, has anyone received any spam PMs in the last week?

Cheers,
Motty.

I had a bunch dating back to Dec.17 (I don't check that email account or log in to the site enough apparently). Same bunch of usernames the others reported, but nothing since Jan.14. Looks like this is my first post here, how about that.
