It's rebox of an old Fujimi hard wing F-4E kit with nice new decals for a slatted wing bird. It's a pretty poor kit by today's standard.

Everyone is saying really bad things about it. I have seen them on the shelves of my local stores, but I have not looked inside the box yet. I am considering getting one because they are cheap here and the decals alone might be worth the price, maybe. If you really want one, let me know. I can get them much cheaper than they are being sold for on evil-bay.

From what I understand it is closer to 1/50 than 1/48, and from the instructions and sprueshots on 1999.jp it is not something to chase...

I can only second what Dwill and Boman have said. It's a remake of the old 1/50 Fujimi kit, therefore, you're looking at late-1960s or early-1970s model technology. I wouldn't bother, especially as the Promodeller kits are repops of Hasegawa kits at a much more affordable price.

It's not a rebox of the Fujimi kit, but Academy's own mold (albeit a copy of the Fujimi kt) from eons ago.

You're right though, as both the Fujimi and Academy 1/50th F-4Es are terrible representations of the Phantom!

So, it's an Academy copy of the Fujimi kit, then?

Academy took the Fujimi kit/molds and redid them with recessed panel lines, just like they did with Fujimi's A-4 & T-38 kits.

I had the F-4E kit, it was so not worth my time I literally gave it away. I couldn't bring myself to charge someone real money for it. OTOH I gave it to my mailman because "my dad flew those in 'Nam"...
