Default Monogram AD6 Skyraider

Monogram 1/48 AD6 Skyraider.

Built the same Monogram Skyraider kit 26 years ago and thought I would do it again (original was destroyed when the girlfriend (now wife) moved while I was on cruise).

Basically OOB but added some ordnance from the Accurate Miniatures set and the rockets came from Whitey (Thanks Bro!). The ordnance geek in me had to add arming wire and the rockets pig tails. Also added the cowl flap indicator rod on the nose. Centerline tank is aftermarket that I got with the kit.

Painted with MM enamels, kit decals but masked the tail stripes and painted over them to make all the green match. Prop markings came from the spares box.

Thanks for looking.

Gerry

Nice work! I don't think I've ever seen that kit built in the kit markings. I have the kit and I started it over 20 years ago but it's still sitting unfinished. Maybe this is the inspiration I need!

Well done sir, well done!

It's seems like a gang of Monogram kits have been resulting in nice-looking results lately. Here's to bringing another to the Flightline!

What colors did you choose for the HVARs?

Thanks for the kind comments, greatly appreciate it.

John, I painted the rockets with MM aluminum for the motor and fins, MM olive drab for the warhead and MM chrome for the fuze.

I had planned on putting 12 rockets on it, was going to use the rockets from the Monogram F4U-4 kit (Thanks Tim for the spare kit.) but that plan fell through. I was going to put new fins on, re-scribe the fuze/motor seam and spruce them up but my limited talent at scratch building soon made me realize that it just wasnít going to do the plane any justice. So, after banging me head against my desk for three nights trying to make 48 little rocket fins, all the exact same, and trying to glue them on the rockets perfectly I finally admitted defeat and switched ordnance loads to what you see here. All in all Iím still happy with the build and maybe one day, if I get enough decent rockets, Iíll put the 12 HVAR on her like I originally planned.

Nice work! I still have two more of those HVARs you can have to get you working toward the load of 12. They're out of the Monogram F9F-5 Panther kit. I'll bring 'em to the meeting tomorrow night.

Nice work gerry. I'm digging the markings, that green looks good on the dark blue. Ordnance looks great too.

Thank all.

One thing I do get right is the ordnance, I usually don't get anything else right but I better get the ordnance correct or I'll never live it down.

Whitey/Andy, I'll take those rockets if you are willing, great appreciate it.

Whitey, what kit did those rockets come from again?

I think the ones Whitey gave me were from a tamyia kit, the Monogram ones won't work, I can't do that kind of majic.

Haven't seen the Trumpter ones so I don't know how they look.

Not trying to be greedy or anything, I just don't want to take something from someone unless I am going to use it. Feeling kind of guilty taking some rockets/parts from Tim K. and wind up not using them (even though I chopped the hell out of them).

No, they're from the Monogram Panther. The Tamiya ones from the A-1H kit are nice but remember the fins were much bigger?

Thanks, couldn't remember which ones I got. Thought I could use the ones from the Monogram F4U kit but after I was done with them they looked worse then what I started with, I suck at scratch building.

Outstanding workmanship and great details. It's a reminder to me the older kits can still end up as show piece for the shelf. What did you use for the arming wire?

Thanks all for the comments, greatly appreciate it.

Eddie, for the arming wire I just used some copper wire stolen from an old pair of headphones. Thin as hell and if you drop it, don't even bother looking for it, there's about a foot of it in my carpet right now.
