Default VF-211 F-14A Plus 1/48

Finally calling this one finished. Here's the overview:

Commission build for a retired AO (ordie) that served with the VF-211 Checkmates during their short-lived super tomcat days. He told me he wanted me to build the jet in a high-visibility paintscheme. To the best of my knowledge, 211 never had a high-visibility jet during their F-14A Plus days, though he swears they did. Since he was paying me, I'm certainly not going to argue with the guy! The names are custom made and with the exception of the COs name, are all members of his family that have served

I used the decals from the Fightertown decal sheet along with some "USS Nimitz" stencils snatched from the FCM VF-211 sheet. I emulated the same style of anti-glare panel worn by the low-vis jets of the time (minus the pinstripe, I wasn't brave enough to do that). Since he's a retired ordie, I decided to use stencils on the weaponry and pulled those from the Revell F-14D rebox. Not the greatest stencils in the world, but better than nothing at all. He asked for a classic 2x2x2 Air superiority loadout with droptanks.

The exhausts were pulled from an old, trashed F-14B I built for the ARC tomcat groupbuild back in 2005, the intake covers, drop tanks, and TCS chinpod come from steel beach.

He said he didn't want the jet to be dirty, so it looks pretty much like it might've looked when it rolled off the assembly line at Calverton (squadron markings notwithstanding

I'd like to thank Gerry (GW8345) for answering some of my questions about ordnance, and Dave "Bio" Baranek for helping me outline a potential paintscheme for what a high-vis Checkmate Super Tomcat might've looked like.

I was on someone else's dime, so that played a role in how quickly I finished it, lol
