Default F-14A VF-102 1992

Hasegawa F-14A 1/48 scale, completed as Diamondback 102 during 1992.

Decals are from the old Hasegawa VF-102 kit donated by Graves09 (Ryan T.) and Afterburner VF-103 Slugger sheet. Base is from Just Plane Stuff, skid and ordie are from the Skunkmodels US Navy Missile Carts kit, tow bar and chocks are from Verlinden and weapons are from the Hasegawa weapon set. Winder nose cone's are from Aero Bonus and the Alpha Probe is from Air Masters. Weapon decals are from the Hasegawa Weapon kits and Warbirds. Paints were Model Master except for the flight deck, that is Rustoleum primer gray.

Took 19 months to complete and is basically OOB except for the Alpha Probe but every detail I could think of/remember was added except one but it's too late to add that one and I high doubt anyone will notice it (hint, it deals with something in one of the intakes). The following details were scratch built;

Weapon Rail environmental seals - tape
Tie down chains - old necklace and stock plastic
Cocksocks - aluminum foil
LAU-7 Hold Down Pin and laynard - wire
RBF Flags - either aluminum foil or after market, most are scratch built.
Yaw String - Thread from the wife's sowing stash
Ground Power Electrical Cord - wire and plastic stock
Aft Section of Phoenix - plastic stock, tube and wire
Sparrow's aft antenna - wire
ECS Exhaust bay - plastic stock and tube
Canopy Jettison Handle - something that was on the side of the seat that didn't need to be there.

For you laughing pleasure;

Forgot to mention, had to modify the tow bar, what you see is not what comes "as is" in the Verlinden kit.

Not quite, this is for a friend who was in VF-102 from 90-95.

Maybe one day I'll build a Slugger jet for myself but after suffering through this build it will be a long time before I attempt another one.

Gerry,

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing some of your work with us! I like how you've got the faded flt deck jersey for the AO (vs the float coat)--great attention to detail. From the tie down chains to the umbilicals.

Thanks again for sharing.
