Man, Kai, I saw your Tomcat while I was searching for F-14 pictures on Google once and I completely fell in love with it! A really amazing model and I wish I could actually see it in person. Your dio looks unbelievable and the figures are top notch!

Wish I had your talent but oh well. I'm content with admiring your work and the work of others just as talented.

By the way, the oleo on the front gear looks amazing. What did you use for that? I doesn't at all look like it was painted...

surely you jest sir

they look gorgeous from where I'm sitting. When I first saw these on Flugzeugforum I though you where going to put yourself taking a pictures of the two pilots in front of the tomcat but looking at the finished dio its awesome and way better that way, now the whole thing just screams normal deck activity

Do they let you take pictures from everything, or are they kind of monitoring what you are taking pictures off?? And another Q if I may is there someone who tells you where to go and to watch out for you guys on deck???

Cheers

Hi Rob, many thanks and you are right! It`s not painted. I used Aluminium foil from Hasegawa for the oleo. That stuff isn`t cheap, but it looks awesome.

Many thanks!! About the flight ops onboard:
We are always escorted on the flight deck by the Safety Officer, or by the PAO team or one of the Squadrons Officers.
And thats good! Otherwise it will be too dangerous.
I am working on the flightline since more than 17 years and I had 10 embarks to Nimitz-Class Carriers so far. So I feel really comfortable between running engines and jet blast.
During flight ops, you have to watch the situation around you like a radar. And this isn`t easy during the photo shooting.
Because your focus is in that second on the image and you can`t see the situation behind you.
Therefore it is great to have one guy watching your back and the situation around you during the shooting.
We had many, many Briefings about what we are allowed to do or shoot....and what not.
If you follow the rules, you are in heaven....if not, you will be in BIG trouble.

Many thanks Pat! I am happy that you like it.
About the Tie-Downs:
If you look at the upper left corner of the packing....the answer is given

Yes, this is the ultimate Tie-Down set from Pitzmodels.
My buddy Mirco handed me over the prototype of that set to use it for my little Cat.

This set is freaking awesome and for sure the best tie-down set on the market!!

Good lord, Kai, that is awesome!! I LOVE your idea of putting you into the model. Great idea!! I've had the idea to put myself in the backseat of an F-4 or Viper but I don't know if I can pull it off. Yours is just amazing!!! Even the cameras look perfect!

THANKS Jake and TomkattR! I am happy that you all like the idea with my little Mini-Me.

@Jake:
I know you like the F-4...but a "little Melampy" have to sit in a 1/32 scale Viper!!
Btw this is not just a cool add-on to our Diorama! The time will come and we will sit as old idiots in our chairs and we can`t build any more models or hold our camera......at that moment, we can look into our display cases and it will reminds us to some of the best days in our live buddy

As soon as I can jump into a backseat of a Viper or a Hornet (...you lucky bastard ), I will build that situation too

If I remember right from my trips to Nellis.....you`re shooting with the right camera brand too...right? If so, I can sent you the EOS-1D body in 1/32 scale for your Viper project. Or I will bring it up to Omaha for the IPMS....if I found a chance to come over.....

Regards Kai

Awesome build Kai. Like others have said and I totally agree "one of the best looking Cat ever." BTW, didn't you build this kit online someplace. I thought I saw some of its in-progress work. Anyway, thanks for sharing

Funny post, Kai, and you're so right. We're so lucky to be able to spend time around these people and machines, it would be wrong to not put myself into one of my models. You've inspired me! A 32nd Viper with a little Jake in it will be done. I will certainly take you up on the offer of the camera!! That little thing is a gem!! Can I pay you for it?

I am throwing in the towel before ever starting because mine will never look this good...outstanding

Yea...sure! You can pay 0.0000002 cent to my PayPal account "kai@areyoukiddingJake?" .
No way buddy! I will sent you that camera body.
Just drop me a mail or contact me via FB to get your address details, because it looks like I can`t make it to the IPMS at Omaha....)-:

Thanks for the answer, Kai! I knew it had to be something else. I may do a search for this Hasegawa foil as I really like to give it a try on some of my 1/48 Tomcat kits.
