I can't believe the first decals are for the -112 clowns. I did fly that plane when it was in a more suitable home.

What's up with the ACO hatch being in during a trap anyway?

Just got word about the price of this kit here in Singapore. It will be at about US$70.

Latest E-2C Hawkeye intel - eyewitness report
Topic Started: Yesterday, 8:36 PM (64 Views)
tmcleaver Yesterday, 8:36 PM Post #1

A very good friend of mine has the Kinetic E-2C Hawkeye kit on his desk right now as he finishes designing certain items for the kit (can't ID him beyond that, but the source is impeccable).

"The kit is definitely inspired by the Hasegawa 1/72 kit," he says. It does have deeper panel lines and more obvious rivets - "the Chinese way" - but nothing that harms the final look under the proverbial coat of paint.

It comes with a folding wing option, and "the wingfold is very strong and made to last."

Right now, the kit will have one option on decals. However, Fightertown Decals (for my money, the best contemporary USN decals available) will be doing a sheet for each of the four squadrons that operate the E-2C, releasing one a month starting in October, and a full stencil sheet. Fightertown works closely with Kinetic (has done most of their USN decals) and has been planning these sheets for a long time. (for the dedicated 1/72 builders, they are thinking about 1/72 releases too now)

From what my source says, and he's as picky as I am, my interest in this kit has just risen very high. From his description, you should be able to pre-order in confidence as it becomes available. The kit will go "on the water" later this week. LuckyModel - owned by the same guy who owns Kinetic - has the kit on pre-order for US$60.

For those who want to do Hawkeyes operated by other air forces, Kinetic will be releasing this in other versions in coming months.

Wow, very cool!!

Gonna wait to see it come out before I'll get one, but I think I'd be more than willing to spend 60 dollars to get a kit that large of that subject. I remember getting to see one of these things close up at NAS Miramar in the mid 80's while I was in elementary school. One of the kids I went to school w/, his father was an E2 pilot.

Kick ass! I like hearing about the folding wing option...the only way a Navy bird should be displayed on the deck! I used to bust my knuckles on these a few years back, it'd be great to see my old squadron done up, the since decomm'ed VAW-127 Seabats off of the USS Coral Sea/Airwing "Lucky" 13. We had a nice big bat motif on the tails.

Personally, I'd like to see decals for VAW-114 "Hormel Hawgs". Some of their aircraft had a bunch of orange razorbacks around the circumfrance of the radome.

That looks real nice! the only thing popping out at me is the main gear tires look a bit thin, you could replacew them with wheels from a Revell/Monogram A-6 or aftermarket A-6 wheels...or, I'm sure there will be all sorts of aftermarket for this one!
Decal guys...VAW-127! And if you do make VAW-124...let's see some "bare ass" on the "Bear Ace" logo...that would be a pre 1991 bird, "Tailhook" scandel ruined all the fun in NavAir.
