Well, actually all engines in use today are JET engines. Unless it is one used in a small private plane. True, they are all turbine based, which means they have turbine wheels, which are found in JET engines. A turbo-prop is a specialized version of a JET engine, it has the turbine engine, which has a shaft that attaches to a reduction gearbox, which then drives the prop.

No Marvin, a jet engine is one that gains it thrust through a rush, or jet, of superheated air that exits the tail pipe, provided forward momentum. The turboprop is a turbine engine connected to a gearbox that transfers the energy produced by the turbine into thrust via a propeller. While the turboprop does produce some small thrust through its exhaust, it's main source is the propeller. Both are turbine engines, but not both are jet engines. As a former C-130 Turboprop mechanic, I did not work on jet engines.
