VMA/VMA(AW)-225 Intruder Question
Did the plane with the black radome fly in Vietnam?

I know little about this unit, but I really like the looks of that plane.

The pics of the black nosed Intruder were taken at Cherry point in '66. The second scheme with the Viking on the tail was from Da Nang '71.

No.... The A-6A thru to the A-6E TRAM was only the very best airframe for putting bombs on time on target day or night and a lot of the time alone! Excuse me... That was best carrier based airframe. The A-6 was one of the very few airframes that never got exported to other countries because it was so good at what it did. From Viet Nam to Desert Storm it kicked some serious ass! Electronic jamming came in the form of the EA-6A and EA-6B which flew with strike packages to mess up radars, very successfully I might add. Let's not forget that the KA-6D took care of all tanker duties till they started to put buddy packs on the S-3 Viking and others. There was an upgrade to the A-6F that never got built due to the budget and everybody was fooling around with stealth technology then. It is a shame really. 50's and 60's technology that still kicked butt forty years later. I was damn sad to see it go... sniff...

Intruders have black noses.

Inturders have brown noses.
